Because of the overpopulation of dogs and cats in Jefferson County there are more pets than appropriate homes. It is the belief of the Humane Society that long-term housing of animals in cages without exercise or social activities is unacceptable. It is our belief that a dignified, painless death is preferable to the cruelties usually associated with an unwanted and/or uncared-for existence. It is the last option to spare animals unending hardship and suffering.
Euthanasia is performed by certified personnel trained in the most humane methods of euthanasia available.
However, as long as an animal is in good health and of good temperament the animal will be housed and cared for as long as there is housing available.
